The Sillitoe Trail begins in Nottingham’s Old Market Square
This location, familiar to the folk of Nottingham is dominated by Cecil Howitt’s iconic Council House and its attendant stone lions.
We’ll be exploring how this versatile space has been used over the years for celebration, protest, civic, public and personal events as we re-visit the themes and locations of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.
Our first guest writer Derrick Buttress is a contemporary of Alan Sillitoe and author of Broxtowe Boy. We asked Derrick to share his experiences in these specially commissioned pieces, now available on the BBC Digital Arts Platform; The Space.
What’s in The Space:
Old Market Square – Theme 1 – Derrick Buttress Interview with James Walker
Square Memories – Derrick Buttress Childhood Memories
Square Memories – Derrick Buttress Nottingham in World War II
Square Memories – Derrick Buttress Nottingham VE Day – Interview
Square Memories – Derrick Buttress Procession and Parades
