Our second location is The White Horse
Once famous for its public houses, Nottingham like many places around the UK, has witnessed the demise of its public watering holes.
The White Horse pub was popular with Raleigh workers who poured out of the neighbouring factory for generations and inspired the drinking scenes from Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. The establishment was also home to a popular boxing club and was still jiving to the sound of Rocking Ray’s 50′s disco nights right up to the late 1990′s.
The White Horse, White Hoss or Bobbo as it was known to local factory workers has since been converted into a fast food restaurant and is today dwarfed by ultra-modern student residences belonging to the University of Nottingham who occupy the former Raleigh factory site.
We’ll be exploring how the traditional British pub and community have declined since ‘Saturday Night and Sunday Morning’ was published.
